Common questions

  • Yes. Halo draws a virtual notch at the top of the screen, and can show it on external displays too.

  • No. Halo is written in Swift and waits for macOS to report changes wherever it can, using about half a percent of CPU while music plays.

  • To take over the volume, brightness and keyboard light keys so their HUD appears in the notch. Halo never reads what you type.

  • Music, Spotify, VLC, IINA and Podcasts, plus web players like YouTube, YouTube Music, SoundCloud and Spotify Web in Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave and Edge.

  • No. There are no accounts or analytics. Clipboard, calendar and music data stay on your Mac.

  • Any Mac on macOS 14 or later. On Macs without a notch, Halo draws a virtual one at the top of the screen, and it can appear on external displays too.

  • Yes. With Accessibility allowed, Halo takes over the volume, brightness and keyboard light keys and shows their level in the notch. ⇧⌥ still adjusts in quarter steps.

  • macOS 26 replaced Launchpad with a list of apps. Halo Launch brings back the full-screen grid, pages and folders, and adds search and a clean uninstaller.

  • Yes. Pinch with four fingers or press F4. Turn off the system Apps gesture in Trackpad settings so only Halo Launch opens.
